Haynes Polished Concrete does concrete floor polishing in Melbourne for homes that have an existing concrete slab. The owners of this home in Melbourne decided to renovate and remove some of the walls to make bigger living spaces. The home had already been built on a concrete slab so once all the old floor coverings were removed and the old walls removed we could begin the concrete grinding process.

They did consider re-tiling or even laying new timber floor boards but after doing their research they discovered the best choice for this home renovation was to get mechanically polished concrete floors. This would give them the best looking finish that is durable & eco friendly. In the long term this will be a cheaper flooring choice as well because it won’t need very much maintenance.

It is very easy to get your concrete polishing for your existing slab, all we do first is a concrete grind on the whole area to make sure it is level, smooth & all the blemishes or cracks are dealt with. Once that is done we can then begin the polishing process using our machinery to polish the surface to your chosen gloss level.

The cost to get concrete grinding and mechanical polished concrete was approximately $9,000 ex gst which calculates to about $110 per square metre for the 80 metres of floor space that had to be polished. As you will see in the photos all the living, kitchen and dining area had polished concrete floors done.

Concrete slab floor polishing for home renovations in Melbourne

More and more people are getting their existing concrete slabs sealed or polished in Melbourne and it continues to increase in popularity as people realise all the great benefits it can provide. Polished concrete floors were used in this home even though the slab was old, its possible to convert existing floors to be polished concrete. You can remove the carpet, lino, floor boards or even tiling to then work on the concrete surface underneath. For homes in rural areas one of the other big benefits of polishing all the concrete floors instead of covering them with other materials is the improved fire resistance the structure will have.You can even create rooms that have white concrete floors like this example.

As you will see in the photos there are imperfections in the surface like small cracks or slight changes in the amount of aggregate that is exposed and this is due to the the way the existing slab was poured & has aged over time. Once we grind the surface we can make it as smooth as possible but you may still see slight imperfections which is normal.

Husqvarna Hiperfloor durable concrete floor polishing in Melbourne

Our company is a Husqvarna Hiperfloor concrete floor polisher. The Hiperfloor system is the true form of polished concrete which is the easiest to maintain. It combines beauty and strength which means that over the life of the floor it becomes the least expensive flooring option available on the market.

Hiperfloor can be applied to new or existing concrete slabs.

The Hiperfloor process of polishing concrete by Husqvarna is a form of mechanically polished concrete that is backed by a long warranty. There are not too many contractors in Melbourne that can produce a floor to this standard. Like all polished concrete, you can choose to have a Husqvarna Hiperfloor in a matte, semi-gloss or a high-gloss. By mechanically refining the hardened concrete surface through grinding, polishing and chemical treatments, Haynes is a skilled contractor that can transform virtually any surface to a whole new level of beauty, functionality and strength.

Hiperfloor is available in three distinctive surface finishes: Premium, Commercial and Industrial with each one having its own well-defined specification for the working process,  selection of grinding/polishing tools and chemical to be used. You can have minimal stone exposure or you can choose to grind down further to get a more decorative full stone exposure finish. The cost to get Hiperfloor does vary slightly depending on how much stone you want to see, and the desired gloss level. This is simply due to the extra labour involved to achieve the finish you would like.

For this new home build we fully exposed the concrete aggregate to deliver the most aesthetic appeal. Floor flatness, reflectivity and shine are always our biggest priority when we are polishing new concrete floors. There are so many great benefits;

  • Reflective and decorative finish choices
  • Floor flatness
  • Extremely high quality and durability
  • Hygienic and easy to clean
  • Exceptionally resistant to abrasion from furniture or foot traffic
